This is a pattern that I really didn't create... I just adapted the process to acheive what (I think) is a more interesting result.
Choose three separate colorways of the same brand/style of yarn; these should be yarns with a gradual color shift, and try not to have many similarities in the color content... that will minimize any areas that would otherwise 'blend together'.

I've gotten feedback that I shouldn't claim this pattern as my own.. which I don't. I just think that seeing other representations of how a simple pattern can be made more interesting is really encouraging, not only to those of us who've been 'around the block' a few times, but to those who may be ready to try something new...
